When I first started training with Anthony of Focus Fitness, I could barely run on the treadmill for one minute…
When I first started training with Anthony of Focus Fitness, I could barely run on the treadmill for one minute. This year I decided to set myself a goal and train hard enough to be able to complete the NBCF Mother's Day 4km run. I did it! In fact, I actually completed it ahead of my expected time of about 38 minutes. I completed the run (with leg cramps and all) in 32 minutes and 31 seconds. Without the consistency of training and the support of easy-to-follow programs set by Anthony, I would never have been able to achieve my goal as successfully as I did. I think it took me about a week to stop smiling at my achievement, and even now I can't believe that I actually made it all the way around the track. It did make it easier because I was part of a team of people from my workplace, and we all had a similar goal in mind – to finish the race and have fun. We succeeded!
For me, the biggest impact that my fitness training has had on me is that it has helped me to overcome my depression. You read about people saying that 'physical activity helps raise the endorphins and serotonin levels in the brain to help improve your mood levels and general feelings of well-being'. Yeah, yeah, yeah – it always reads the same and makes you feel the same when you read it. 'That only works for other people.' Well, I can honestly say that it doesn't only work for other people – this time it worked for me too. It may sound strange, but I became mentally and physically aware of the changes happening in my brain and to my body – and it felt good. The long periods of low self-esteem (or in my case, no-self esteem) and the heavy feelings of depression got shorter and shorter. I've been training for over 3 years now and the depression has nearly gone completely.
Without the fantastic help and support from Anthony and Focus Fitness, the easy-to-follow programs, the fun training sessions, then I really don't think I would be able to achieve the things that I have and to make my life move forward. So a big thanks to Focus Fitness.

Focus Fitness always offers a professional service – friendly, reliable, well-organised and ultimately focused on getting results…
We've been training with focus fitness for 3 years. We have trained with Anthony and Robbie, they continually keep us motivated and they work towards a range of fitness goals ranging from local fun runs to completing half-marathons and even setting specific challenges for that particular session.
We both work full time, which includes frequent interstate travel and it can be hard to maintain a regular training schedule. Focus Fitness motivates us to stay on track by creating fun, enjoyable training programs. Some of these programs include indoor and outside sessions that always provide variety and fun activities. Their approach involves regularly re-assessing progress, understanding our goals and revising programs accordingly.
We use a variety of environments which may include the gym the local park and even our garage and they are always able to inventively and creatively tailor a program for us.
Focus Fitness always offers a professional service – friendly, reliable, well-organised and ultimately focussed on getting results.

Focus fitness helped me make the State Dragon Boat team to compete in the Nationals!
This year (2007) the World Dragon Boating Championships will be held in Sydney. My first goal was to make the NSW team to compete against all other Australian states and territories and my second goal was to win at the Nationals to earn the right to represent Australia. This would then give our team an opportunity at winning a medal at the world championships!
It was my second season of dragon boating, so I wanted to challenge myself and try out for the NSW State Team. I am fairly small, so I needed to get stronger, to be able to compete at State level. To get into the team, we needed to get through two erg trials and one water-based trial. These trials were extremely competitive, as everyone wanted to represent NSW at the Nationals.
Anthony helped guide me through strength and conditioning regimes. I got much fitter and much stronger, and my erg trials improved by 127 metres. This earned me at a spot at competing at the water-based trials.
My training program included pyramids to enable me to paddle flat out for 175 metres. We competed at the water-based trails and at Christmas I found out that I had finally made the NSW State team.
Since then I have made the NATIONAL team! It was a miracle and bloody fantastic!
